Today I got such good news I almost cried. I got a call from our new pediatrician here in WA saying that Drew has "a textbook perfect heart." Now if you would've asked me two weeks ago if news like that would mean anything to me, I would've probably said no. Drew has never, ever had any heart issues. He's just a healthy, rambunctious kid. But this past Friday we took him in for a routine well-child checkup, and the doctor couldn't get a good read on his heart rate. It would speed up, then slow down. She tried several times and the same thing kept happening. Finally she told us to set up an appointment at the Children's Hospital in Seattle for Drew to get an EKG.
These past few days have been hard. I wanted very much to believe my husband and mother and friends who all assured me that this was no big deal and everything was fine. Rationally I could see their point, but the emotional mother part of me was very worried and scared for my baby. Last night, the night before the appointment, I laid in bed and just cried to Mike, and he laid down next to me and prayed. Then early this morning I took Drew in to what turned out to be the nicest hospital with the friendliest staff ever, it was only a ten minute procedure, and it was over. They told me I'd have to wait until the middle of next week to get the results, but to my surprise our doctor called this very afternoon to deliver the good news that Drew is fine. She said it was probably just nervousness that day making his heart rate go up and down.
So my heart is thankful and I'm freshly reminded of the privilege it is to have these children, these gifts from God, in our care.
