Daily School Schedule

I got this idea over on "Mary's Musings," another homeschool blog.  She talked about her daily schedule.  I remember how much that kind of detail interested and helped me when I was a new homeschooler, so I thought I'd do the same.  Here's what I came up with when I sat down and wrote it out a couple weeks ago.

6:00  I get up, shower and get ready, have a bit of time with God.

6:45  Get kids up, have breakfast, supervise everyone getting ready.

7:30  Pack up everyone and take Drew to school.

8:30  Start our homeschool with the pledge and a Bible lesson aimed at Zach.

8:45  Zach:  Science

9:30  Zach:  Spelling     Baylee:  Storytime and handwriting

10:00  Zach:  Break       Baylee:  Bible story and math

10:15  Zach:  Grammar/writing

11:00  Zach:  Math        Baylee:  Phonics

11:45  Lunch

12:30  Zach:  History

1:00  Zach:  Spanish

1:15  Zach:  Reading

2:00  Homeschool Done

2:50  Pick up Drew

Perspective

Today Zach was helping Baylee do a page of Bob Jones Kindergarten math.  The page asked, "Which takes longer?" and showed a couple different pictures.  Neither Zach nor Baylee  could quite understand what the people in the pictures were doing, so Zach came and asked me.  I told him, "Well, the people in this box are singing a hymn and the man in that box is preaching a sermon.  Which takes longer?"

Satisfied with that, Zach went back in the other room and translated for his little sister.  "Baylee," he said, "which takes longer:  People singing a song?  Or a man talking forever basically?!"

Changes

I know I've been so lax with this blog this summer.  Sorry about that!  In a nutshell, Mike and I have both been working quite a bit, and when we're not working we're doing family stuff.  Mike took the boys camping last month and they came home from that with good memories and poison ivy.  The kids and I have been trying to go swimming at least once a week at our favorite lake, which has helped the boys work on their form a bit.  Baylee can't swim yet, but she's getting braver in the water.  They've also been doing a lot of good, old-fashioned playing outside, riding bikes, riding skateboards, and running through the sprinkler.

As far as my title, Changes, there's one really big one.  We're sending Drew to a local charter academy for 3rd grade this year.  He really wants to go, and after much prayer and thought and conversation, Mike and I feel it will be good for him.  So.....it's a whole new world for all of us!  Just tonight I went out and purchased some of the last of what we'll need for our little homeschool:  An American flag, a couple fun posters, a spelling book for Zach, and a handwriting book for Baylee.  And then I went to a different store and priced school uniforms.  Our Drewie will be leaving the house in a uniform everyday.  LOL  Quite a far cry from the mornings he sat at his desk in his jammies.

We're excited and a little nervous, but all of us feel a real peace.
